Cacao and coffee combine for an all-natural energy kick in this shake. Perfect before a workout!

Prepare a shot of espresso and put it in fridge to cool. When cool (about 10-15 minutes), you can make your shake.

Blend together:

The espresso

1 banana

1 tbsp raw cacao powder

1/2 tbsp raw cacao nibs

1 serving of plain whey protein powder

1/2-1 cup of unsweetened almond milk (or any other milk)

Stevia to taste (I used one 2g sachet)

The cacao nibs contribute to the overall buzz effect of the shake, but you can make the shake without them. You do, however, need to use a high quality raw cacao powder. Cocoa powder from the supermarket does not have the same health benefits nor will it give you the same energy boost.

Due to its incredibly high antioxidant levels, raw cacao is associated with all sorts of health benefits, including boosting mood, increasing muscular performance, improving the way our body deals with insulin, and decreasing blood pressure. Plus it just tastes darn good! You don’t have to give up your chocolate – just find healthier alternatives!
